John Olsen started the meeting at 7:04 PM and welcomed everyone for attending and their commitment to youth lacrosse as preparations begin for the 2010 CDYLL season.

SCHEDULING: CDYLL Registration & Game Scheduling meeting is confirmed for 7:00 - 9:00 on Thursday Feb. 25th, 2010.  Every program participating in the CDYLL needs to send a representative for each team at each level; 3rd & 4th / 5th & 6th / 7th & 8th.  Each participant should know in advance what dates they have field availability on and what dates they want to schedule games and round robins.

-each team will get a minimum of 3 Home games / 3 Away games / 2 Round Robins.  If programs/teams would like to add more games to their individual schedules they have that opportunity.  Also, if a program/team needs more games as the season progresses programs can contact each other to schedule.  However, 7/8th grade games need to be scheduled through the CDYLL so that officials can be contacted.  The 2010 CDYLL season games will begin the first week of May.  ADK will help to certify officials to increase the pool of available lacrosse referees.

PINNIES:  The 2010 CDYLL season will be the final year of a 3 year agreement with Gait and Breakaway to provide pinnies to the CDYLL.  The first year each program was given their pinnies at no cost.  The 2011 season the CDYLL will put the pinnies purchase out to bid to allow the CDYLL to provide the programs with their pinnies at the lowest cost possible without sacrificing quality.

The pinnies will continue to be $12.00 each and the shorts will be $13.00, $25.00 package deal.  The CDYLL fees will remain at $20.00; $12.00 (Pinnie) + $8.00 (Refs., website, insurance, etc.). If shorts are added the total package amount with CDYLL fees would be $33.00/player.   Payment for fees and pinnie orders is March 17th.  Payment will be made to Treasurer Andy St. John.  Each program will receive a CDYLL Fee form and a scheduling form via email.

SKILLS & DRILLS / COACHING CLINIC:  The ADK is working with UAlbany to provide a player/coaching clinic prior to a scheduled UAlbany game.  The date is to be determined.  Coach Kivlen along with UAlbany players will provide an opportunity for the youth players and their coaches to be on the field participating for an hour and a half by rotating through 6 stations.  The drills will be specific to youth play and the youth coaches will be provided handouts for each drill.  As soon as the date is set, the CDYLL will email the info out to all of the coaches and program directors.

John will be contact other colleges in hopes that they will include CDYLL youth players at games. John will contact Union, Skidmore, RPI.

REFEREES:  The 2010 5th/6th grade round robins will be covered by paid officials.  The $8.00/player CDYLL fees will help to cover this expense.  This will allow the coaches to spend their round robins coaching their players and not having to officiate.

CDYLL WEBSITE: Intent is to provide links to the various school team websites and field locations / directions for all schools - content should be sent to Andy St John at andy.stjohn@gmail.com   Any changes or updates to individual programs please contact Andy as soon as possible.  Andy will look into the possibility of adding an option of a notification of inclement weather that might affect game play.  If there are programs that need space to run their program’s website the CDYLL has sufficient room to host.  The website will be updated with important dates, info. etc.

FINANCIAL UPDATE:  Some programs have outstanding balances from the 2009 season regarding pinnie orders.  Andy will compile that information and send a reminder email out to those programs.  The CDYLL currently has a $3000.00 balance.  Some expenses include $400.00 website fees, board insurance, etc.

ADK: John has been attending the ADK meetings and has noticed a positive working environment.  The communication has been improved with the CDYLL and the ADK which will only help to promote youth lacrosse in the entire Capital District.  John provided a copy of the CDYLL’s mission statement and indicated that the CDYLL has made great strides in accomplishing the goals in the mission statement; promote growth of boys and girls lacrosse, provide a safe, respectful and educational structure, collaborate with the ADK and US Lacrosse to ensure growth of the coaches and officials and to continue to develop policies that support the league.  The CDYLL has helped to support the mission statement by providing officials, coaching clinics, skills/drills opportunities, rules, etc.

The question was asked what benefits does the CDYLL received from the ADK?  The ADK would like to help the CDYLL with accomplishing their goals through an increase in officials, providing coaching clinics and will continue to work with a joint committee to find other ways to continue their support.

There is a common goal of the CDYLL programs, coaches, parents and the ADK to make youth lacrosse the best possible experience for ALL of the kids.

John asked that all of the CDYLL programs to communicate any problems, questions, suggestions to the CDYLL board so that we can help to support the programs and address any issues.

RULES:  April 13th, 2010 will be a mandatory Rules meeting for ALL programs (directors & coaches) to discuss the 2010 rules.  John Stiso and other certified officials will be in attendance to help clarify the rules.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the rules.  This is important to ensure that all coaches are in total agreement and understanding of the rules before the season begins.  A reminder will be sent out previous to the meeting!

A question arose regarding the one pass rule at the 3rd/4th grade level after a team is up by four goals.  The coaches have a responsibility to redirect those players who consistently score, possibly putting that player on defense to keep the teaching aspect and making the game of lacrosse fun for the kids as the foremost priority.  Possession games may be used to change the perspective.

Each coach should know the expectations of the CDYLL and the purpose of coaching and playing youth lacrosse before the season begins.  Also the coaches should discuss the rules prior to the game.

9th/10th grade CDYLL Team?  Programs asked if the CDYLL would support the opportunity for those players who did not make their school team, but would like to continue to play lacrosse.  John indicated that the CDYLL is only up to the 7th/8th grade level.  However if there are other programs that are in the same situation the CDYLL can help with communicating that information to all of the CDYLL participants to help promote those opportunities.

A question was asked regarding modified players on the 7th/8th grade CDYLL teams.  This item has been discussed previously and the minutes were read regarding the discussion and vote that was held on Feb. 24, 2008.  The proposal was:  “The CDYLL would allow modified players to participate in their community’s team to supplement those teams.  No ALL modified teams would be allowed.  Each program must communicate true level of abilities to classify their level of play”. The proposal was passed.

A discussion was held regarding teams possibly “stacking” their players to have two levels of abilities within their individual program.  John indicated that is not the focus of the CDYLL.  Coaches have a responsibility to determine where their players’ abilities are and have balanced teams.  There are instances where one team progresses further than another, however there should never be “stacking”. There needs to be a level parody of play.

John adjourned the meeting at 8:10 PM.
